Infotech: quiet takeover has great importance
A quiet takeover has been completed that consolidates part of the Web that is low profile but remarkably popular.
Search engine company Ask.Com - which started life as a contextual search engine called Ask Jeeves - has bought Lexico, which owns Dictionary.com, Thesaurus.com and Reference.com.
The all-cash transaction was announced on 15 May, 2008.
